currently we're working on setting up a linux-based sound studio, starting with the ubuntustudio package. I also installed ubuntu's lowlatency version of the linux kernel.
So far I've found ubuntustudio to be a huge incohesive mess of sound apps which drop in to your "Sound & Video" menu on the ubuntu desktop.. Some apps do not even seem to run (LMMS freezes the whole machine when we try to open a project file).
It is going to take some time to try out all the apps and figure out a good production process.
Meanwhile, here's some reading on a windows open-source composer app, and mixtape "outlaws"...
